Two new Hele On buses, equipped with air conditioning, fully padded seats, wheel chair lifts, bike racks and stereo sound, are shuttling residents around Puna and beyond these days. They are two of nine new coaches purchased with federal monies and funds from the Puna Geothermal Asset Fund.

PGV Sponsors 15th annual Kona Brew Fest

Puna Geothermal Venture is ‘on tap’ again this year as a sponsor of the 2010 Kona Brewers Festival. PGV joins Sunetric, First Hawaiian Bank and The Gas Company as sponsors of the annual community fundraiser, set for March 11-13 in Kailua-Kona.

This marks the 15th year the Kona Brewers has put blended microbrewing, fine dining, running, and recycling into a festival and a benefit for Big Island charities.

How hot is your geothermal energy I.Q.?

Michael Kaleikini, Puna Geothermal Venture plant manager who leads the Ormat Technologies, Inc. Hawaii team, tested the geothermal I.Q. of those attending last week’s Beer & Business pau hana in downtown Honolulu. He handed out a geothermal pop quiz. The event was hosted by Hawaii Science and Technology Council and Hawaii Business magazine.

Honolulu’s high-tech crowd was more knowledgeable than most when it came to renewable energy resources in Hawaii, but not perfect. Forty percent of those who responded got all but ONE answer correct. Only three received a perfect score. Test your own geothermal I.Q. here.

Maui to be part of search for geothermal resources

ORMAT Nevada (Ormat Technologies Inc.) has won three U.S. Department of Energy contracts to use innovative methods to search for geothermal power resources, including one hunt to be done on Maui. The search will be done by ORMAT’s Hawaii subsidiary, Puna Geothermal Venture, which produces about 30 megawatts, or 20 percent, of the Big Island’s electricity.

Geothermal technolgies on the rise: Ormat is industry pioneer

Ormat Technologies, Inc., parent company of Puna Geothermal Venture, made news at the Geothermal Resources Council meeting in Nevada last month. The gathering is the largest annual conference for the geothermal industry. More than 2,000 experts around the world attended, among them Puna Geothermal Venture plant manager Michael Kaleikini.
