Goji Kara brings crowd to PGV site

Puna Geothermal Venture hosted members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry at a Goji Kara Aug. 25, 2010 at the PGV plant in the Puna District.

Organizers called it one of the most successful Goji Kara, which are after-work socials for networking and education among members and friends.

Most guests arrived via a 35-minute bus ride from Hilo. Mike Kaleikini, PGV manager, and his team provided food, music and information about geothermal energy and its contribution to Hawaii Island’s energy picture.

A geothermal quiz proved a challenge as participants vied for prizes. Kimo Lee of W.H. Shipman scored high, but reportedly had help from his friends.

PGV’s Kaleikini is president-elect of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He will be the first Native Hawaiian to lead the 60-year-old business organization. He is currently the group’s government affairs chair.

He will follow Randy Kurohara, head of Hawaii County research and development, as president of JCCIH next July.
