Direct use applications (using the heat itself) are popular because of the high cost of conventional energy supplies. There are potential opportunities for both existing and new businesses. Agriculture and commercial fishing enterprises are promising. Other possibilities include: fruit dehydration; cold storage and ice-making to preserve fish and fresh flowers; aquaculture ponds for tropical ornamental fish; greenhouse bottom heating; drying lumber and crops such as macadamia nuts.
Other ideas are freeze-drying coffee, ethanol distillation, and milk pasteurization and sterilization.
